Nathan Herzog, Ph.D., is dean of the School of Education at 91ÖĆƬł§ University. Before joining Biola in 2026, Herzog served nearly two decades at Jessup University in multiple leadership roles, including dean, associate provost, professor, and chair of graduate education programs.
With more than 25 years of experience spanning K–12 and higher education, Herzog has taught and supervised programs across undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels. His work has focused on leadership development, instructional innovation, teacher preparation, educational policy, faculty retention and the integration of faith and learning. Throughout his career, he has led major institutional initiatives involving accreditation, academic program development, faculty professional development and educational partnerships across California.
Herzog professional background also includes extensive work in public education, charter school systems and statewide educational leadership. He served as a science teacher, department chair and administrator at Horizon Charter Schools and previously worked with the California Department of Education and California Commission on Teacher Credentialing as a trainer-consultant supporting statewide implementation of teaching performance assessments.
In addition to his academic leadership, Herzog is the founder and executive director of The Education Conference and founder of the Northern California School Safety Conference, both of which bring together educators, administrators, policymakers and community leaders to address emerging trends and challenges in education. He has advised state and regional leaders on issues including educational policy, school safety, teacher shortages, child advocacy and community development.
An active scholar, speaker and mentor, Herzog has authored books and articles on educational leadership, research methods and faculty retention, while also serving as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Epistemology – The Theory of Knowledge. He has supervised numerous master theses and doctoral dissertations and regularly presents at conferences, webinars and leadership forums nationally and internationally.
Herzog earned a bachelor degree in biology from Point Loma Nazarene University, a master degree in multicultural education from National University, and a Ph.D. in leadership in higher education from Capella University. He also completed the LEAD Certificate in Executive Leadership at Stanford University.
