Nearly 600 grandparents travelled from 20 different states to visit their 350+ Biola grandkids
for our fourth annual Grandparents Day on March 9th. The day began with breakfast in the
Café, followed by chapel. Professor Melissa Schubert spoke about the family of God and Biola
Gospel Choir led students and grandparents in worship. After chapel, grandparents had the
opportunity to take golf cart tour of campus or play bocce ball on Sycamore Lawn.

Grandparents got a taste of college life by attending a lecture titled “Historical Perspectives on
Recent World News.” Dr. Judith Mendelsohn Rood and adjunct faculty Paul Rood gave a lecture
on the Middle East and how important it is to view current events with a Christian worldview,
through the lenses of history.

Lunch was served under a large tent on Metzger lawn, where three Biola students shared the
tributes they wrote on behalf of their grandparents. President Corey commended guests on
the legacy they have created and assured them that as a university, Biola is equipping this
next generation to have impact on the world for Jesus Christ. The King Men offered a great
performance that was enjoyed by all.

The afternoon offered a variety of activities- Biola Bingo, campus tours, and a computer
seminar by Professor Matthew Weathers and Allan Bagge. For the first time in the four year
history of Grandparents Day, Residence Life offered special open hours for grandparents to
visit their student dorm and meet their roommates. Many students decorated their doors,
welcoming grandparents to campus.
